Joseph Robinson, Sr.
(September 26, 1844 ~ August 24, 1928)

Joseph A. Robinson was born September 26, 1844 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The 1850 Census shows Joseph living with his parents and siblings in Fawn Township, York County, Pennsylvania.

On August 5, 1863 he married Sarah L. Gensinger in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Joseph and Sarah had the following children:

  1. Sarah - born April 16, 1867 in Pennsylvania
  2. Mary M. - born February 10, 1869 in Pennsylvania
  3. Rebecca Jane - born February 22, 1870 in Pennsylvania.  She married Vinson Seville.  Rebecca died in 1941 and in buried in the Oakhill Cemetery in Riverton, Illinois
  4. Daniel W. - born March 18, 1872 in Riverton,  Illinois
  5. Charles A. - born September 15, 1873 in Riverton,  Illinois
  6. Joseph A. - born July 1, 1875 in Pennsylvania.  He married Luella
  7. Laura A. - born June 20, 1878 in Riverton, Illinois.  She died June 28, 1934.
  8. Christina M. - born March 1, 1881 in Riverton, Illinois.  Christina married Adam J. Rheude March 6, 1899 in Dawson, Illinois.  Christina passed away May 29, 1924 in Riverton, Illinois.
  9. Thomas A. - born August 10, 1883 in Riverton, Illinois
  10. Susan P. - born November 27, 1886 in Riverton, Illinois

On February 24, 1864, Joseph enlisted in the 3rd PA.H.Art. (heavy artillery) at the age of 19.  His military records indicate he went from Private to 2nd Lieutenant in only a matter of months.  His military papers has him as 5'9", fair complexion and dark hair.

On September 30, 1864, Joseph was wounded in the battle at Fort Harrison. He spent 15 days in October in McClellan Hospital at Fortress Monroe in Virgina.

His military records indicate he was shot in the left leg, below the knee in September 1864.  However, later records indicate that "records fail to show wound in left leg as alleged." His company moving records show "present/sick.  No diagnosis found" during the months of July through August of 1865.

On 19 SEP 1865 Joseph Robinson was tendered out due to family affairs.

Joseph Robinson died August 24, 1928 and is buried in Oakhill Cemetery, Riverton, Illinois.
