Joseph Robinson, Sr. Joseph A. Robinson was born September 26, 1844 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The 1850 Census shows Joseph living with his parents and siblings in Fawn Township, York County, Pennsylvania. On August 5, 1863 he married Sarah L. Gensinger in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Joseph and Sarah had the following children:
The birthdates of all the children can be verified here. On February 24, 1864, Joseph enlisted in the 3rd PA.H.Art. (heavy artillery) at the age of 19. His military records indicate he went from Private to 2nd Lieutenant in only a matter of months. His military papers has him as 5'9", fair complexion and dark hair. On September 30, 1864, Joseph was wounded in the battle at Fort Harrison. He spent 15 days in October in McClellan Hospital at Fortress Monroe in Virgina. His military records indicate he was shot in the left leg, below the knee in September 1864. However, later records indicate that "records fail to show wound in left leg as alleged." His company moving records show "present/sick. No diagnosis found" during the months of July through August of 1865. On 19 SEP 1865 Joseph Robinson was tendered out due to family affairs. Joseph Robinson died August 24, 1928 and is buried in Oakhill Cemetery, Riverton, Illinois.
