Clarence Hawkins

Clarence Freman Hawkins was born on March 9, 1885 in Edwards County, Illinois to Parents Lorenzo & Cathrine (Parsons) Hawkins.
On April 27, 1905, Clarence married Margaret (Maggie) Rachels in Posey County, Indiana.
In the 1910 Census Clarence, Margaret, Manford (listed as a daughter), Lenord & Leo are living in Posey County, Bethel Township, Indiana. Notice, right 'up the street" from them live Lorenzo, his father, and family.
According to his Death Certificate, Clarence was a laborer at a lumber mill. He was not a U.S. War Veteran.
Clarence and Margaret had the following children:

2. Leonard Valentine "Shorty"- Born 1907 in Indiana
3. Leo A. - 1910 in Illinois
4. Harold L. - 1914
5. Bernice R. "Bernie" - 1919
6. Clarence Freman Jr - Born 5 APR 1929
The 1930 Census puts Clarence, Margaret, Arthur (listed as Manford), Leonard, Leo, Harold, Bernie & Clarence Jr in Edwards County, outside of Grayville City, Illinois.
Auth Ruth told me that Clarence worked on his father's (Lorenzo) farm. Clarence's son, Arthur also worked on the farm. It was thought that Lorenzo was going to to leave the farm to Clarence, but somehow it ended up with one of Clarence's brothers.
Clarence passed away August 3, 1968 in Grayville, Illinois. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville, Illinois.
Margaret passed away December 13, 1969 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. |
