Samuel Van Duzen was born May 24, 1860, in Camden, Midlan, Ontario to parents Henry & Hulda (North) Van Duzen. About 1885 he married Marriette Jane in Kent, Ontario. Samuel and Marriette had the following children: 1. Lillie - born July 24, 1880 2. Melville - born December 2, 1882 in Ontario 3. Nellie - born june 24, 1885 4. Laura - born November 24, 1887 5. Harry Eric- born June 1, 1890 in Ontario 6. Merley - born February 15, 1892 in Ontario. Merley married Margaret Jane Molyneux (b: March 6, 1892 in Hope Town, Ontario - d: October 29, 1976 in Smith Falls) on December 13, 1813 in Chatham, Ontario. Merley passed away October 12, 1976 7. May - born May 24, 1895 in Ontario 8. Elmer - born April 14, 1899 in Ontario 9. Vera - born September 24, 1900 in Ontario. Vera married David Earl Faubert August 28, 1918 in Chatham, Ontario. 10. Johnny - born May 23, 1903 in Ontario.

The census lists Samuel as a laborer, but family stories say he was a lumberjack and quite a craftsman. samuel would travel up and down the Detroit River looking for work, stopping in at home when he could. It's said that he made a violin that was gorgeous. His daughter, Vera, had tried to find the violin but wasn't successful.
