Tillman Gray Tillman G. Gray was born April 14, 1840. He enlisted October 22, 1861 at the age of 22 and was a Private in Company B, 42nd Tennessee Infantry of the Confederate Army. On February 16, 1862 he was captured at Fort Donaldson and sent to Camp Douglas, near Chicago in Illinois. On August 25, 1862 he was admitted to the U.S.A. Prison Hospital in Camp Douglas with pneumonia and was returned to duty on September 1, 1862. On September 4, 1862 he was sent to Vickburg to be exchanged. On January 21, 1865 Tillman Gray gave his Oath of Allegiance to the United States in Nashville, Tennessee (only four months later Generla Lee surrendered). Tillman married Caroline Smith October 18, 1866. Tillman and Caroline had the following children:
